Scope of this monograph#

VOLUMA XC, US. Other Juvéderm formulations and regional Voluma presentations require their own dossiers.

Clinical statements below summarize the attached documents. They are not a complete prescribing label. Match the exact local product and current instructions to the clinical decision.

Composition & formulation#

The original FDA label specifies crosslinked HA at 20 mg/mL and 0.3% lidocaine. The document is dated October 2013.[2]

How it works#

A viscoelastic HA gel provides physical tissue augmentation; material and tissue interaction influence the result.[2]

Indications & treatment areas#

Current US manufacturer information lists cheek volume loss, chin augmentation and moderate-to-severe temple hollowing in adults over 21. The original label covers cheeks only.[3][2]

Application considerations#

Use the current indication-specific instructions and anatomical plane. A historical cheek protocol cannot be reused for the temple.[2][3]

Contraindications & precautions#

Severe allergies, relevant bacterial-protein sensitivity and lidocaine allergy are contraindications. Defer treatment at sites with active inflammation or infection.[2]

Adverse effects & safety#

Tenderness, swelling, bruising and nodules are reported. Intravascular injection can cause necrosis, visual loss or stroke.[2][3]

Duration & follow-up#

A midface study reported patient-rated improvement in 79% at two years. This is not a guarantee for every patient or another anatomical site.[4]

Distinctions that matter#

Voluma, Volbella, Volux and Ultra XC have distinct US indications. A shared brand family is not evidence of equivalent handling or outcomes.[3]
